Author Anne Severn Williamson selected the foothills of
the Appalachian Mountains as the mysterious setting for Ghost Horse Hollow. She grew up near Reflection Riding, currently
known as the Chattanooga Nature Center. The woodlands and cliffs of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, directly influenced her
ultimate design choices for Ghost Horse Hollow, as did the countryside of eastern Kentucky. The Adventures of Ghost Horse Hollow are a tribute to her love for the
ecosystems and waterways of the deciduous forests of North America. The book series is set approximately one hundred years in the future, during the aftermath of dramatic global
storms and industrial disasters.

How did the author select these titles? Anne Williamson had a vivid dream one night in
which the names of the nine books appeared to her in order. She wrote them down in a journal the next morning, and
... Voila! The series had a specific structure for her to follow. The first novel was entitled The Lore
King. Each title listed above was displayed in her dream in a specific color. The colors matched the seasons of the
year. Remember, dreams can come true!

Two significant themes appear throughout the fantasy
book series for children. The first is Anne's admiration for Native American teachings and the profound insights
of the Medicine Wheel. Jonas White Hand, Salina Little Dove, and Lyla Morning Sky represent the voices of the Indigenous People
of the woodlands. These three characters in the book series are full of wisdom and strength. They help to guide the MacKennon
homesteaders through many challenges and exciting adventures! The second theme stems from the author's appreciation for Celtic mythology and ancient European fairy tales. The
Celtic Wheel of the Year is a wondrous calendar of celebrations that assists humankind in understanding Earth transitions
as well as individual growth. Sir Finnias Glowgold, the Household Light Fairy, is the most learned scholar in Ghost Horse
Hollow. This character teaches the children history, music, and good manners.

Inspiration for the world of Ghost Horse Hollow came from
various creative sources. For example, the wood sculpture of Anne's husband Jack Williamson contributed to
the overall look of the Fairylands. The sculptures come to life and interact with the homesteaders, such as the famous Pony
& Hound chairs at the dinner table.
